"Tolv principper hos Saxo" is medieval researcher Sigurd Kværndrup's interpretation of the Danish Latin major work Saxo Grammaticus Gesta Danorum. Saxo has placed important layers of meaning 'under cover', as it was in vogue among the vanguard of 1100th century Renaissance poets. As intellectual, he has told his fatherland's pagan history with the King as protagonist in an subtle way: the list of Kings is composed on a structure of the number twelve, that approaches the work to the allegorical novel. Each of the 12 first books tell tremendous warrior and love stories and puts them on a symbolic principle, a core of ideas, that is unfolded in manifold ways – as in many of Shakespeare's plays.
